Sierra Leone (Nyanyanhun) Monitoring Report November 2025

For three days in November 2025, the team visited Nyanyanhun, the village in Kailahun, Sierra Leone where 150 Lifewater Kits were distributed in November 2024. Over the course of the three days each home in receipt of a Lifewater Kit was visited.

This is the second monitoring exercise in the village (the first exercise was in March 2025, when various issues were addressed and people retrained) and it was encouraging to find most of the systems functioning well.

We heard many testimonies of how sickness has drastically reduced in the homes that are using the filters. ‘No more diarrhea’, ‘no more dysentery’, ‘however dirty the water is that is placed in the bucket, it comes out clean’, over and over again these were the stories we were hearing. The people in Nyanyanhun are so grateful for this gift of safe and clean water they have received, thanks to Lifewater UK and their sponsors.

The Team

There were a number of homes that did not have good stands, one house said that they did not have room for it, and they had the system set up on a table, which was fine. A few people said that they could not afford a stand, and others had just not made the arrangements.

It was a little disappointing to find some systems not in use. Those people who were not using the systems were counselled about the benefits of drinking clean and safe water and were helped and encouraged to clean the filters and fill up the buckets. They were told that they would be visited again the following day. They were also told that if they do not use the systems consistently that they will be removed and re-distributed to other homes in the village who did not receive a Lifewater Kit. During the revisits all but one of the systems were now being used.
